How to secure your Salesforce org in two steps or in less than 5 minutes

How many credentials (user name and passwords) do users type in each day? Users probably type three to four credentials per day and tend to use the same credentials in different environments, which is a bad security practice. In order to reduce risks to a minimum, ECHO recommends reducing repetitive steps with activation of SSO.

Single sign-on (SSO) is an authentication method that enables users to securely authenticate with multiple applications and websites by using just one set of credentials. With SSO, a user can log in with a single ID and password. True single sign-on allows the user to log in once and access services without re-entering authentication credentials.

The best option is to centralize password management, and with Salesforce we don’t need expensive 3rd party tools to make that happen. Salesforce has a solution for us to link the most used Authorization providers (e.g. Google, Facebook, LinkedIn ) and use them for authorization into Salesforce. To make that happen, you only need 5 minutes and to go through two simple steps.

Step 1: Set up Google Auth. Provider

Create Google as Auth Provider in Salesforce Setup -> Identity -> Auth. Providers -> New. Select Provider Type that you want to use for Authentication, set Name (e.g. Google Auth and URL Suffix), and all other fields can remain as is.

Step 2: Add Google to our Login Page

Go to My Domain page under Salesforce Set up -> click Edit under Authentication Configuration and then select Google Auth from the list of Authentication services. After this you can do the test run in order to verify if SSO is set up correctly by going to your instance Login Page.

Most non-profit organizations use Google for Non-Profits in combination with Salesforce NPSP as an Authentication method. Google SSO within Salesforce NPSP is not activated by default in Salesforce. This activation is something that saves time for employees so that they don’t re-type passwords, making password management more secure.

Activation of Google for Nonprofits is simple, and one only needs to go through the steps that we listed above or reach out to ECHO Technology Solutions to activate this feature on your Salesforce org.

How can ECHO assist you?
