Using APIs for a Competitive Advantage
The Harvard Business Review recently posted an article titled “Are You Using APIs to Gain Competitive Advantage?” and immediately I was super proud of ECHO. We use one system for sales, managing contracts, time entries, and invoicing. We use another system (JIRA) for managing our project tasks and timeline. Just recently we integrated these two systems and it is fantastic!
Our clients love our use of JIRA because it’s completely transparent to them. They can log in at any time to see task status and progress against timeline. Clients also communicate with our team via JIRA, providing testing feedback, requirements clarification, etc. Prior to this month, the only complaint was that clients could not see time usage in JIRA. This was annoying for us too because we had to generate separate reports to share with clients to show time usage. Now that we’ve integrated our two systems, clients can log in at any time and see (real time) the amount of hours used, which directly translates to client budget. They can see the detailed notes explaining the time usage and can even comment via JIRA if they have questions. This is a huge improvement in client experience and a huge time save for us. Win. Win.
