Single Sign On – Another Great Feature from Salesforce

Single Sign On – Another Great Feature from Salesforce

As you may know, Salesforce is a cloud based, secure platform that is incredibly customizable to meet a variety of business needs.  Did you also know that Salesforce offers single sign on for active directory environments?  This is an incredibly convenient feature for users: you log in to your work computer and you are automatically logged in to Salesforce.  As you update your work password, the Salesforce password will also be updated.  It’s super easy to remember your Salesforce password because it’s the same as your regular network password. It’s also very convenient for system administrators: any password settings, such as password expiration features or character requirements will apply to your Salesforce instance as well.  Administrators are also saved a step when an individual leaves the organization, they simply remove a user from the network system and at the same time, they terminate the users’ access to Salesforce.  Everyone will benefit from increased user adoption due to the convenience of accessing the system without having to log in.

There are three ways to configure Salesforce single sign on.

  • Federated authentication via Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML)
  • Delegated authentication via Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP)
  • A third party, external service provider (e.g. Google, LinkedIn, etc.)
